Quality and Quality Management Workshop - 2nd Intake

The 2nd Quality and Quality Management Workshop for key management staff of universities, polytechnics and colleges in Viet Nam was organised by the Training Centre for Advanced Management (TCAM), VNU-Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam from 19 to 21 December 2016. The 3-day workshop was jointly facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Principal Consultant, Education Quality International and Dr. Le Quang Minh, TCAM. The workshop was attended by 30 management staff members from various universities, polytechnics and colleges in Viet nam.

The objective of the 3-day workshop is to raise the awareness of quality and quality management of key management staff of universities, polytechnics and colleges in Viet Nam. The learning outcomes of the workshop are:

• Define quality and quality management
• Explain the evolution of quality management
• Describe quality management models
• Describe quality management in higher education
• Evaluate the factors affecting the choice of quality management implementation
• Implement quality management and change management
• Sustain quality management

12th Happiness DNA Public Workshop

The 12th Happiness DNA public workshop was held on 15 & 16 December 2016. The workshop was facilitated by Chief Happiness Coach, Mr Johnson Ong Chee Bin of Living Better in collaboration with ASK Training Pte Ltd.

The 2-day workshop is based on the principles of positive psychology, and physical, mental and emotional therapies and techniques. It is taught in a unique change methodology where participants first determine the level of their happiness in the eight dimensions of the happiness DNA. How to nurture and sustain the eight dimensions of the happiness DNA is then introduced. The workshop concluded with an action plan to address the gaps in the happiness DNA.

BAN-PT Annual Meeting 2016

The BAN-PT Annual Meeting 2016 was held from 8 - 10 December in Jakarta, Indonesia. The meeting was graced by the Minister of Higher Education and Research on 8 December 2016. Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder and Principal Consultant of Education Quality International was invited to give a speech on the "Trends in Higher Education Accreditation" on 9 December 2016. The meeting was attended by BAN-PT management, university representatives, assessors and invited guests.







73rd AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Universitas Indonesia

The 73rd AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Universitas Indonesia was held from 5 - 7 December 2016 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Three study programmes were assessed by AUN-QA Network and the Bioprocess Engineering Study Programme (BESP) was assessed by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin (AUN-QA Expert, Singapore) and Dr. Alyssa Peleo-Alampay from the Philippines.




4th AUN-QA Assessors Training Workshop

The 4th AUN-QA Assessors Training Workshop was jointly organised by AUN Secretariat and Universitas Indonesia from 1 to 7 December 2016 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The workshop was uniquely designed to give a "hyper-real" experience by incorporating both "simulated assessment environment" in the classroom and "live assessment" observation of the 73rd AUN-QA Assessment at Universitas Indonesia.


The workshop aims to equip participants with the essential competencies to carry out an AUN-QA programme assessment. The curriculum of the workshop was updated to include cultural sensitivity and case study of constructive alignment. The workshop aims to achieve the following learning outcomes:
  • Demonstrate the competencies to carry out AUN-QA programme assessment;
  • Identify the key changes in the AUN-QA Framework at Programme Level (3rd version);
  • Formulate questions for AUN-QA programme assessment;
  • Apply the PDCA approach in AUN-QA programme assessment; 
  • Prepare an AUN-QA programme assessment;
  • Conduct a desktop assessment for a programme; 
  • Conduct a site assessment including stakeholders’ interviews, site tour and documentation review; and 
  • Write assessment feedback, presentation and report
The workshop was attended by 32 participants from universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Viet nam. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN-QA Expert together with Dr. Tan Kay Chuan from the National University of Singapore.

15th AUN-QA Workshop for Accomplishing Programme Assessment

The 15th AUN-QA Workshop for Accomplishing Programme Assessment was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 22 to 25 November 2016.

The 4-day workshop aims to introduce the AUN-QA framework and enhance quality assurance practices based on the latest version of AUN-QA framework at programme level (3rd version). The content of the workshop encompasses:
  • Introduction to quality assurance in higher education 
  • AUN-QA framework and criteria at programme level 
  • AUN-QA quality assessment process 
  • PDCA Approach to self-assessment 
  • Self-assessment report (SAR) writing 
  • Change Management 
The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN-QA Expert together with Prof. Arnulfo P. Azcarraga (DLSU) and Prof. Satria Bijaksana (ITB). The workshop was attended by 29 participants from universities in Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam.

Delivering Customer Happiness

Living Better in collaboration with ASK Training Pte Ltd will be offering to two new training courses on how to deliver happiness to customers in 2017. The two courses are " The Art of Great Service" and "Managing Emotions in Customer Experience". The two courses give participants a unique learning experience by incorporating "mystery shopping" into the curriculum. The courses will be facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder and Chief Happiness Coach of Living Better.

2016 ASEAN Young Quality Assurance Officers Network Forum and Roundtable Meeting

The 2016 ASEAN Young Quality Assurance Officers Network Forum and Roundtable Meeting was jointly organised by AQAN and ONESQA. The event was hosted by ONESQA on 16 and 17 November 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event was graced by Radm Wachara Karunyavanij, President of AQAN and Dr. Komsorn Wongrugsa, Acting Director of ONESQA. 

The event started with a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Supachai Yavaprabhas on the "Harmonisation of ASEAN Higher Education". This was followed by a panel discussion on "Why ASEAN Needs a Regional Framework for QA?". Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN-QA Expert and Principal Consultant of Education Quality International was one of the panelists together with Prof. Zita Mohd Fahmi, Secretary of AQAN and Atty. Teresita R. Manzala from the Philippines.

The panel discussion was followed by country reports from AQAN members and ended with visits to Mahidol University and ONESQA office.

Aligning AUN-QA Programme Self-Assessment Report (SAR) Version 2 to Version 3

The 3rd version of the AUN-QA Framework for Programme Level will be fully implemented from January 2017 onwards. The 3rd version covers 11 criteria as illustrated below.

All study programmes which have been assessed and certified using 2nd version and are due for re-assessment will have to re-write the SAR based on the 3rd version. To facilitate the re-writing from 2nd version to the 3rd version, a checklist has been developed by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN-QA Expert and Principal Consultant of Education Quality International as attached below.

3rd AUN-ADB Training Workshop for CLM Countries@Lao PDR


The 3rd AUN-ADB Training Workshop for Lao PDR was held at the National University of Laos from 7 - 10 November 2016 and facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin (AUN-QA Expert) and Dr Chavalit Wongse-ek (Mahidol University). This workshop is a continuation from the 2nd AUN-ADB Worshop and it focuses on the PDCA Approach to Programme Assessment. The learning outcomes of the workshop are:

  • Apply the PDCA approach in quality assessment;
  • Make preparation for a quality assessment
  • Conduct a desktop assessment for a programme;
  • Conduct a site assessment including stakeholders’ interviews, site tour and documentation review; and
  • Write assessment feedback and findings
Twenty-nine participants from the National University of Laos and the University of Health Sciences attended the workshop. A mock assessment for the Bachelor of Arts in English Programme from the Faculty of Letters, National University of Laos was carried out at the end of the workshop and recommendations to improve the study programme were presented to the management of the university.
