Global Leadership and Management in Higher Education: Innovations and Best Practices

The international conference "Global Leadership and Management in Higher Education: Innovations and Best Practices" was hosted online by SEAMEO RETRAC and British Columbia Council for International Education, Canada on 28 and 29 October 2021, Vietnam.

Dr. Nguyen Thi My Ngoc and Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin presented a paper on "The Way Forward to Enhance Quality Assurance of Higher Education in Vietnam in the Disruptive Era" at the Plenary Session III: Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education on 28 October 2021. The paper addresses the development trends in Industry 4.0 in ASEAN and Vietnam, a SWOT analysis of quality assurance of higher education in Vietnam and the big way forward.

The conference was attended by more than 500 participants from ASEAN and the region.




3rd Workshop on Writing Self-Assessment Report (SAR) for Successful AUN-QA Programme Assessment

The 3rd online workshop on "Writing Self-Assessment Report (SAR) for Successful AUN-QA Programme Assessment" based on AUN-QA Programme Framework Version 4 was held from 11 to 12 October and 22 October 2021. The workshop was attended by 34 participants from universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The online workshop adopted both synchronous and asynchronous modes of delivery and hands-on assignment in writing SAR. At the end of the workshop, the participants received a consolidated SAR arises from their assignments. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN-QA Expert and Founder & Principal Consultant of Education Quality International.

2nd Workshop on "Writing Self-Assessment Report (SAR) for Successful AUN-QA Programme Assessment

The 2nd online workshop on "Writing Self-Assessment Report (SAR) for Successful AUN-QA Programme Assessment" based on AUN-QA Programme Framework Version 4 was held from 4 to 5 October and 15 October 2021. The workshop was attended by 28 participants from universities in the Philippines and Thailand. The online workshop adopted both synchronous and asynchronous modes of delivery and hands-on assignment in writing SAR. At the end of the workshop, the participants received a consolidated SAR arises from their assignments. The workshop was graced by Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, Executive Director of the ASEAN University Network and facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN-QA Expert and Founder & Principal Consultant of Education Quality International.


The workshop had received many positive feedback and some of them are:

Integrating Revised Bloom's Taxonomy and Fink's Taxonomy of Significant Learning

The revised Bloom's Taxonomy is the most popular and widely used taxonomy for formulating expected learning outcomes in higher education. Among the three domains of learning, cognitive domain is the most established and well implemented as compared to the other two domains of learning namely; psychomotor and affective. Many find these two domains challenging to use in writing generic learning outcome statements especially relating to soft skills. The Fink's taxonomy of Significant Learning may be able to fill the gaps for these two domains of learning. 

Integrating the revised Bloom's taxonomy and Fink's taxonomy offers the best of the two taxonomies to aid educators in formulating and writing both subject-specific (hard skills) and generic (soft skills) expected learning outcomes. The integrated taxonomy created by Education Quality International (eqi) is presented below.

Addressing Quality Assurance in Online Learning Webinar

The webinar "Addressing Quality Asurance in Online Learning" was a series of webinars organised and hosted by the Finance Accreditation Agency (FAA) and Malaysian Higher Education Institutions Quality Assurance Network (MyQAN) in collaboration with ASEAN-QA Association. The series of webinars aim to share trends and strategies for future-proofing learning strategies and programmes in the new normal.



Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin was one of the two panelists and he presented the Quality Assurance Framework for Online Learning and Teaching. The webinar was attended by more than 230 participants from 15 countries.

Workshop on "Marking Schemes for Student Assessment" at the Faculty of Law and Political Science (FLP)

The workshop on “Marking Schemes for Student Assessment” was held on 21 and 22 September 2021 via synchronous platform for FLP at the National University of Laos as part of the recommendations of the gaps identified in preparation of the AUN-QA programme assessment (version 4) in 2022. The workshop was attended by 60 staff members from the International Relations and Political Science Departments which will be the first two programmes to be assessed by AUN-QA Network. The learning outcomes of the workshop are as follows:

Differentiate formative and summative assessment;

Relate AUN-QA criterion 4 to student assessment

Formulate assessment plan;

Define the requirements for rubrics and marking (answer) keys;

Design rubrics for constructed responses; and

Design marking (Answer) keys for controlled responses

The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, International Curriculum Development Specialist and Dr. Nguyen Thi My Ngoc, Regional Curriculum Development and QA Standards Specialist.



235th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Chulalongkorn University

The 235th AUN-QA Programme Assessment (online) at Chulalomgkorn University, Thailand was held from 26 September to 1 October 2021 for the following 4 study programmes:

  • Master of Public Administration Program in Public Administration, 
  • Bachelor of Arts Program in Economics (International Program), 
  • Master of Science Program in Clinical Sciences (International Program) and 
  • Doctor of Philosophy Program in Clinical Sciences (International Program)

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin led the programme assessment for the Master of Public Administration with Dr Maria Resurreccion P Alejo from the Philippines.
