31st AUN-QA Workshop for Accomplishing Programme Assessment

The 31st AUN-QA Workshop for Accomplishing Programme Assessment was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 26 to 29 March 2019.

The 31/2-day workshop aims to introduce the AUN-QA framework and enhance quality assurance practices based on the 3rd version of the AUN-QA framework at programme level. The content of the workshop encompasses:

  • Quality assurance in higher education
  • AUN-QA framework and criteria at programme level
  • AUN-QA quality assessment process
  • PDCA Approach to self-assessment
  • Self-assessment report (SAR) writing
  • Change Management

The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN-QA Expert together with Prof.  Arnulfo P. Azcarraga (De La Salle University, the Philippines). The workshop was attended by 32 participants from universities and institutions in Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

One Asia Foundation Seminar

The One Asia Foundation Seminar in Cambodia with the theme "Asian Community and Human Resource Development" is held from 14 February to April 2019. It aims in developing quality human resources to live in peace in one community and one world.

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Principal Consultant of Education Quality International was invited to give a talk on the "Trends and Development in Human Resource Development" at the National University of Management on 18 March 2019; and Chea Sim University of Kamchaymear and University of Heng Samrin Thbongkhmum on 19 March 2019.  The talk was attended by more than 100 undergraduates in each university.

Curriculum Review and Development at Faculty of Law, NUOL

As part of the LuxDev Project LAO/031 to enhance QA standards in supporting the continued development of higher legal education in Lao PDR, a curriculum review and development meeting for the Faculty of Law (FLP), National University of Laos (NUOL) was held from 12 to 14 March 2019 at Thalath, Vientiane Province, Lao PDR.

The stakeholders's inputs, feedback and improvement plans for the various study programmes were presented and discussed. Experts from the higher education departments of Lao PDR and Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, the appointed curriculum specialist for the project were invited to the meeting to provide their views and perspectives for the new curricula for legal education.

4th AUN-QA International Conference and Meetings 2019

The 4th AUN-QA International Conference together with the AUN-QA's Council, CQOs and Assessors' Meetings were held from 3 to 7 March 2019, in Manila, the Philippines. The event was jointly organised by AUN-QA Network, De La Salle University and University of the Philippines.

The 4th AUN-QA International Conference with the theme "To Be or Not To Be" - Outcomes-Based Education and AUN-QA Quality Culture in Practice was held on 4 and 5 March 2019 at Dusit Thani Manila, the Philippines. More than 450 university's leaders, administrators, faculty members, QA professionals, CQOs and assessors attended the conference.

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN-QA Expert chaired and moderated the Plenary Session 1 - “Transitioning from traditional to outcomes-based education: What are the key success factors?”. The two esteemed speakers for the session were Professor Kazuo Kuroda from Waseda University/ Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies and Dr. Paula Hodgson from the The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

STEM Towards Education 4.0

The 5th National Research Conference in Science and Mathematics Education - STEM Towards Education 4.0 was organised by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Science Education Institute (SEI) from 28 February to 1 March 2019 in Legazpi City, the Philippines.

The conference was graced by DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña and DOST-SEI Director Josette Biyo. Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Principal Consultant of Education Quality International and AUN-QA Expert was invited to give a keynote address "The 4Cs Framework to Transform Higher Education Institution into an Innovation Producing Ecosystem" followed by the cutting of ribbon and opening of the poster exhibition.

The Conference highlighted STEM education towards Industry 4.0. It was held as part of the DOST-SEI Capacity Building Program for Science and Mathematics Education (CBPSME) scholars. More than 200 scholars and faculty members attended the conference.

18th Happiness DNA Public Workshop

The 18th Happiness DNA public workshop was held on 25 and 26 February 2019. The workshop was facilitated by Chief Happiness Coach, Mr Johnson Ong Chee Bin of Living Better in collaboration with ASK Training Pte Ltd. The participants were treated to a recipe of happiness covering the 8 dimensions of happiness DNA namely; Financial Happiness, Health Happiness, Career Happiness, Social Happiness, Environmental Happiness, Mental Happiness, Emotional Happiness and Spiritual Happiness.

10th Assessor Training Workshop for AUN-QA Programme Assessment

The 10th Assessor Training Workshop for AUN-QA Programme Assessment was jointly organised by AUN-QA Network and Mahidol University from 16 to 22 February 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop was uniquely designed to give a "hyper-real" experience by incorporating both "simulated assessment environment" in the classroom and "live assessment" observation of the 136th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Mahidol University.

The workshop aims to equip participants with the essential competences to carry out an AUN-QA programme assessment. The workshop aims to achieve the following learning outcomes:
  • Demonstrate the competences to carry out AUN-QA programme assessment 
  • Relate the quality assurance of higher education in key ASEAN member states to AUN-QA programme assessment 
  • Formulate questions for AUN-QA programme assessment 
  • Apply the PDCA approach in AUN-QA programme assessment
  • Prepare an AUN-QA programme assessment 
  • Conduct a desktop assessment for a programme; 
  • Conduct a site assessment including stakeholders’ interviews, site tour and documentation review; and 
  • Write assessment feedback, presentation and report

The workshop was attended by 32 participants from universities in Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN-QA Expert together with Dr. Tan Kay Chuan from the National University of Singapore.
