AUN-QA International Conference 2024

The annual AUN-QA International Conference 2024 was held on 11 and 12 December 2024 at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, AUN Quality Master and Founder & Principal Consultant of Education Quality International was invited as the moderator for the first session - "Going All Out: Knockout Strategies for Higher Education Success.

The conference was attended by more than 400 QA experts and practitioners from 152 universities, institutions, agencies and ministries of 11 countries.

OBE Seminar at Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Vietnam

OBE Seminar at National Economics University (NEU), Hanoi, Vietnam

L.Y.D.I.N.C Ltd. Company (LYDINC), in collaboration with Education Quality International, successfully organized a hybrid seminar on "Sharing Practical Experience On Developing Expected Learning Outcomes and Curriculum that Meet National and International Quality Assurance and Accreditation Standards" at the National Economics University (NEU) on 12 July 2024.

14th PAFTE Midyear Convention 2024

The 14th PAFTE Midyear Convention 2024 was held online from 13 to 14 June 2024. Mr Johnson Ong was invited as a resource speaker and he shared the topic on "Promoting Global Education through ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance.

The PDCA of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) at CamEd BUsiness School, Cambodia

A 1-day workshop on "The PDCA of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) " was hosted by CamEd Business School, Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 8 January 2024. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder & Principal Consultant of eqi and AUN-QA Expert and was attended by more than 60 participants from more than 30 institutions/universities. The workshop was graced by Mr. Casey Barnett, President, CamEd Business School.

The 15th Higher Education International Conference, Macao Polytechnic University and Asia-Pacific Quality Network

The 15th Higher Education International Conference - Artificial Intelligence and Pedagogical Transformation: Implications for Higher Education Quality Assurance jointly hosted Macao Polytechnic University and Asia-Pacific Quaity Network was held from 11 to 13 December 2023 at Macao Polytechnic University, Macao, China.

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder and Principal Consultant of Educaction Quality International and AUN-QA Expert gave a keynote speech on "A Future-Ready Quality Assurance of Higher Education in the World of Artificial Intelligence and Disruptions" The presentation shared the disruptions arise from AI and the VUCA world and how institutions can ride above the waves of disruptions by embracing the ecosystem perspective, innovation, autonomy and agility to redesign a future-ready quality assurance of higher education.

Ecosystem Approach to Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) at the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University

A half-day seminar on "Ecosystem Approach to Outcomes-Based Education (OBE)" was held on 16 October 2023 at the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. The invited speakers are Dr. Nguyen Thi My Ngoc from University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City and Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder and Principal Consultant, Education Quality International.

The seminar was graced by Dr. Prakorn, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and attended by both academic and support staff. The seminar was a prelude to the workshop in November 2023 which aims to prepare the two study programmes for AUN-QA assessment.

The RADICAL Approach to Innovation of Quality Assurance in Higher Education

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder and Principal Consultant of Education Quality International was invited as a plenary speaker to share "The RADICAL Approach to Innovation of Quality Assurance in Higher Education" at the International Conference on Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development (STISD 2023) on 25th - 26th August 2023, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Abstract:

Quality assurance in higher education began receiving intense interest and attention in the late 1990s arising from the Bologna Process. Since then, quality assurance in higher education has evolved and grown in leaps and bounds mainly through the implementation of accreditation schemes as a national regulatory requirement, which was later expanded to include regional and international accreditations. The national regulatory policy has accelerated the pace of development and adaptation of different quality assurance frameworks among higher education institutions, which have converged over time. Hence, quality assurance practices (including prescribed outcomes and curricula standards) in higher education institutions have become less differentiated and less competitive which may compromise their institutional aspirations and innovation capability. 

With the convergence of quality assurance frameworks and practices, how can institutions continue to enhance the quality of higher education, fulfil their institutional aspirations, and at the same time be differentiated in today’s disruptive world? 

Innovation holds the key to the future of quality assurance amidst the waves of disruption and in differentiating higher education institutions. The RADICAL approach to innovation of quality assurance is the key to unlock the creativity and innovation capability of higher education institutions.

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder & Principal Consultant and AUN-QA Expert was invited by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City to share the approaches in designing integrated curricula. The talk was held at USSH on 27 April 2023 and attended by staff from the USSH and other universities in Vietnam.

Quality Assessment of Training Programs Seminar at Foreign Trade University (FTU), Ho Chi Minh City Campus

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder & Principal Consultant of Education Quality International and AUN-QA Expert was invited by the Foreign Trade University, Ho Chi Minh City Campus to share the key requirements of the AUN-QA Programme Framework (Version 4) on 24 April 2023.

The talk was attended by faculty members and staff of the IQA Department and held at FTU, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

SHARE Regional Qualifications Frameworks & Quality Assurance Conference

The SHARE Regional Qualifications Frameworks & Quality Assurance Conference was held on 21 November 2022, Jakarta, Indonesia. 

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, lead expert in the outcomes-based education was invited to share his thoughts at the Stakeholder reflections on SHARE’s Work on Qualifications Frameworks and Quality Assurance and outlining future priorities for EU-ASEAN cooperation.

Ecosystem of Curriculum Re(design) in Higher Education Institutions

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder and Principal Consultant of Education Quality International was invited by Lac Hong University, Vietnam to present the AUN-QA Certificates to 6 study programmes at the 25th anniversary ceremony on 19 October 2022. At the certificate award ceremony, he spoken about the 4Ps: principle, paradigm, purpose and persistence which are the key differentiating factors that make an institution unique, distinctive and riding above the waves of disruption.  

As part of the 25th anniversary of Lac Hong University, Mr. Johnson Ong shared the ecosystem of curriculum re(design) in higher education institutions at a seminar in the afternoon.

Best Practices of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) in Higher Education

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Technical Expert, EU-SHARE and Principal Consultant of Education Quality International (EQI) was invited as a keynote speaker at the National Webinar hosted by Universitas Indonesia as part of EU-SHARE Peer Multiplication Training (PMT) project on 13 October 2022. The workshop was attended by more than 100 participants.

Evaluating the Success and Effectiveness of OBE at Foreign Trade University

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Technical Expert, EU-SHARE and Principal Consultant of Education Quality International (EQI) was invited to facilitate a online workshop on evaluation of OBE implementation and overview of AUN-QA programme framework at the Foreign Trade University, Hanoi, Vietnam on 31 August 2022 as part of EU-SHARE Peer Multiplication Training (PMT) project and EQI's community service.

Education in a VUCA World

Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin was invited as a keynote speaker during the Faculty Day at the Far Eastern University, Manila, the Philippines on 11 August 2022. He shared the Education in a VUCA World in his keynote speech which was attended by about 500 faculty and administrative staff.

Training of Trainers Workshop at the National University of Management, Cambodia

A seminar on the "Quality Assurance Framework of Online Learning and Teaching" and a 3-day workshop on "Training of Trainers" were hosted from 27 to 29 July 2022 by the National University of Management, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Nguyen Thi My Ngoc and Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, the leading consultants of the 5-year NUM IQA project which is a community project to uplift the quality assurance of higher education in CLM countries. The workshop was attended by 26 participants from various faculties and departments.

The Training of Trainers workshop was based on a DDE Framework developed by Education Quality International with a strong focus on micro-teaching in which each participant has to facilitate a 10-minute lesson in applying what they have learned in the workshop.

The Ecosystem of Curriculum (Re)design in Higher Education Institutions

The presentation of "The Ecosystem of Curriculum (Re)design in Higher Education Institutions" was shared by Dr. Nguyen Thi My Ngoc and Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin at the  international conference "Innovative Leadership in Higher Education: Global Trends and Practices in the Post COVID-19 Pandemic" hosted online from 7 - 8 July 2022 by SEAMEO RETRAC, Vietnam.

The presentation shares the key challenges in the VUCA world, their impacts on higher education and how higher education institutions can ride above the wave of disruption by (re)design their curricula from a multidirectional or ecosystem perspective.  The conference was attended by more than 300 participants from ASEAN and the region.
