The Chemistry of (Un)Happiness

Happiness or unhappiness is basically caused by the presence of certain chemical substances in our brains. We can generate these chemicals by altering our lifestyles and habits or doing certain activities. For example, physical exercise produces endorphins and reduces cortisol. Cultivating positive emotions such as having a sense of accomplishment, sense of pride or feeling loved make us happier. Happy food like bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin. The next time you feel sad, eat a banana.
